Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a postnatal doula?
Research has found that in cultures that value rituals that support and care for new mothers/birthing people, people have a more positive experience of the postnatal period and a reduced risk of postnatal mood disorders. Having support from a postnatal doula also means that you are more likely to successfully establish breast/chestfeeding and continue breast/chestfeeding. These are just a few of the reasons why hiring a postnatal doula can give you the start to parenthood that you deserve.
I think you might be the doula for me, what happens next?
Get in touch to arrange your free phone call and in person meeting so I can answer any questions you might have so you can decide if I’m the right person to support you during this special time.
Do you provide a contract?
Yes, I provide a contract that outlines my terms and commitment to supporting you.
What does your support cover?
Practical support can range from things such as baby care, breastfeeding/feeding support, light housework, looking after older children, accompanying you to appointments, shopping, cooking nutritious meals and stocking your freezer and looking after your baby so you can shower, rest or catch up on sleep. Becoming a parent is a life-changing experience that comes with a range of emotions. From talking about and processing your birth experience to making sense of all the advice out there, I can provide the emotional support you need as you find your way as a new parent. I can also help you access local services and support should you need it.
Do you support partners?
While my role as a postnatal doula is to 'mother the mother/birthing person' and provide whatever support you need so you can rest and enjoy your new baby, my support extends to the entire family - partners, older children and pets. The arrival of a new baby is equally life-changing for partners and siblings I am there to support them as they adjust too.
